Jeannette Mullarkey,
the owner and designer at Finestra, has been creating
fine jewelry for over fifteen years. Her interest
in jewelry making began while attending the University
of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Jeannette majored
in jewelry / metalsmithing, receiving multiple design
awards and honors and earning her BFA in 1990. Also
a painter and sculptor, she has enjoyed carving in
many different mediums. Her designs are created by
carving the original models in jeweler's wax, then
molding and casting them into metal using the technique
of lost wax casting. Prior to founding her own company,
Jeannette worked for some of the top high-end designers
in the jewelry industry, as well as fine retail jewelers,
creating custom work, original designs and models.
"Finestra was born from a need to claim my work as my own. Although I continued to draw, paint and sculpt, it was my wish to further express myself in the medium which I had invested the most time and effort. I worked to develop designs, which could express a varied interest in natural, and human made structure. Architecture and nature inspire me. I am fascinated by the means with which structure finds its form, in either organic or invented process".
"My mission as a jewelry designer is to realize sculptural, visually dynamic work, which is both wearable and finely crafted. Each piece I create is carefully considered and made with a generous quantity of gold or silver. Jewelry unlike most adornments retains a lasting value due to the beauty and durability of the materials from which it is made. Another important value jewelry has is its ability to serve as a tool for self-expression and as a symbol of emotional connection. It is because of my respect for this ability that I enjoy creating in this medium. Finestra is committed to realizing beautiful, powerful and complex jewelry for individuals with the same exciting attributes".
Finestra designs are available in a variety of fine materials. All work is designed and created by the artist in limited production. The work is very high quality, reasonably priced and finished with care and attention to detail.
